Peer Reviews

Peer reviews are an essential part of our commitment to growth and excellence in burlesque performance. This constructive feedback process is designed to support performers in honing their skills, refining their acts, and fostering a supportive community environment.

Peer Review Sessions

Welcome to the Peer Review sessions at the Kootenay Burlesque Academy!

Peer reviews are integral to our commitment to advancing excellence in burlesque performance. This feedback process supports performers in refining their skills, acts, and fosters a supportive community environment. Sessions are offered three times a year, providing consistent opportunities for growth and development. Participating in these sessions allows performers to receive valuable insights and feedback, empowering them to continually enhance their craft and excel in their artistic endeavors.

The purpose of the peer review is to provide thoughtful, respectful feedback that encourages personal and artistic growth. By receiving insights from peers who understand the nuances of burlesque performance, performers can gain valuable perspectives on their acts.

Guidelines:

  1. Constructive Criticism: Focus on providing constructive criticism that is specific, actionable, and respectful. Highlight aspects that are effective as well as areas that could be further developed.
  2. Respectful Environment: Create a safe and supportive environment where performers feel comfortable receiving feedback. Approach each review with empathy and understanding.
  3. Objective Feedback: Base your feedback on observable elements of the performance, such as stage presence, storytelling, choreography, costume, and audience engagement.
  4. Encouragement and Positivity: Acknowledge the strengths and achievements of the performer. Offer encouragement to build confidence and motivation for improvement.
  5. Open Communication: Encourage open dialogue and questions from the performer to clarify feedback and discuss ideas for improvement.
